My first reading from my forthcoming book The Silver Swan: In Search of Doris Duke, on March 7, 2017. The reading took place at St. John’s College Santa Fe, New Mexico.
I read from the book’s Introduction about why I chose this subject, the Prologue, to give a feeling for who Doris Duke was in her middle age, and finally Chapter 7 to give you an idea of her father, James Buchanan Duke, and the fortune she inherited.
The reading lasts approximately 25 minutes, and is followed by a question and answer from the audience from the remainder. Total time is just under 50 minutes.
A very special thanks to Bryanna Briley at St. John’s College for facilitating the event and making this recording available.
Such a treat hearing your voice and read. Looking forward to the published book!
What a delightful and informative surprise ! Thank you Sallie. I am looking forward to reading your book about Doris Duke and to the film which hopefully will follow the publication. Time to put on your screenwriting hat!
Love, Belle
Wonderful surprise to hear this. And I really enjoyed the Q and A. My friend in Louisville, Robin Harris, tells me you were a special guest at the Kentucky Women’s Book Festival this year. Reading THE BLUE BOX now and looking forward to this book.
