I would like to say absolutely nothing. This obnoxious multi-billionaire would seem to have no principles that accord with mine; certainly he is not a feminist. But his suit against OpenAI, just commencing in California, has some similarities with my struggles with what has become of the Kentucky Foundation for Women, and especially, Hopscotch. I’m so grateful for all of the support, expressed through many responses to my posts. I would be really grateful if any of you remember details of my donation of Hopscotch and its adjoining acres and buildings.
Now, having whetted your curiosity, I must move on, since I am only in the early stages of this proceeding. And I’m especially grateful to move on to celebrate old friends—”gold,” according to the saying, rather than the “silver” of more recent acquaintances. Two especially dear to me took me out to a delicious dinner here in Santa Fe at Pasqual’s, especially dear to my heart because it was founded over 40 years ago and run consistently since then by a hard-working woman.
Here we are, exuberant after our dinner and conversation. Truly, I am blessed!
The email I received from KFW regarding their decision for the Hopscotch House is the most disgusting, disrespectful thing I’ve read in a long time. It is arrogant, self-righteous, and totally lacking in awareness of who came before. And with no respect for the elders, the women who even made it possible for what they have. You would think they would at least wait until we were all dead before they before they discredited us.
Hello, I am likewise dismayed by what is going on with Hopscotch. My wife Guinever, was not really involved or the beneficiary of KFW over the years (though friends were). But apparently KFW helped sponsor her current show, along with 4 others at 21c. I don’t understand how the wishes of the person who established the foundation can be disregarded. After all, wasn’t it this the vision that started it all? Good luck to you in trying to claw this back. -David Mosley
I’ve had the pleasure and honor of staying overnight at Hopscotch House many times for writing retreats, workshops, writer gatherings. Invariably, during my stay I would meet other artists or writers working on projects simultaneously. The setting is glorious for pulling thoughts into the open. Its peace, solitude and environment connect my soul with inspirational natural elements. And the house itself is a woman who holds arms around its occupants. Fortunate to have been a friend and colleague of Carrider Jones, who first introduced me to Hopscotch House, staying there with Carrider and other like minded writers, poetry formed in my mind and went forward into publication. To use it in any other manner is a loss for women in the community who have used its walls as nourishment for feminine souls.
